Awards Dinner:
In December, the Council will hold its annual awards dinner recognizing the remarkable leaders in our
district.  Any deserving leader can be nominated.  See the Chair or Assistant Chair for the nomination
forms.  All nominations must be submitted to the Van Nuys office by November 3rd.

Our district needs Merit Badge Councilors!
Councilors can be for Boy Scouts and Cub scouts and do not have to be leaders to qualify.
Requirements include a completed registration form (no payment necessary), a completed merit
badge form, youth protection training, and a strong interest in teaching our scouts about your particular
interest.

Newhall Service Center:
Our new Service Center now has store inventory available.  CASH & CHECK ONLY until the credit card
service is in place.  Inventory is not as extensive as the Van Nuys store, but they do have uniforms
available as well as rank and advancement materials and literature.  It is promised that there is
everything there that you would need to get a new scout going.  They will also process tour permits and
paperwork at the Center.  Scout Store Manager is Jackie.  If you contact Jackie with an order more
extensive than can be handled by their supply, she will order it for you to be shipped to your home in 2-3
days.

Popcorn:
Mostly a pep talk.  Over $250,000 pre-purchased by the packs in our valley.

Leader of Character Awards:
October 27th (location TBA), there will be an auction to raise money for the packs of Santa Clarita
Valley, with very high-end items up for bid.  Last year they raised over $30,000 for the Valley.  Let your
rich and famous friends know about this if they are interested in a way to financially supporting Scouting
in our area.

Leader Training:
September 15th and October 27th.  If you were a Tiger leader last year, you need to be retrained for
Wolf.  If you were Bear last year, you need Webelo training.  Keep in mind that if you have already gone
through Youth Protection training, you will not need to receive that training again, just the training
appropriate for your position.  See Chair or Assistant Chair for registration forms.  The more people
trained in our pack the better.

Rechartering  (Kelsey, you did this already, right?)
Requirements for recharter include and updated roster, an advancement record, and a record of trained
unit leaders.  I have the current roster to hand over to Kelsey.

Webelos overnighters
There are two upcoming overnighters:

October 9,10, 11:  Troop 499 is sponsoring an overnighter, location TBA.
October 6 &7:  Troop 48 is sponsoring an overnighter in Hart Park.  Fee is $20.  Contact Krista Jones
at 661-252-7770 or
Kristaj1s@hotmail.com for more information.  Chair and Assistant Chair have the
flyer.
